Elements and Principles

Elements and principles powerpoint

Attached is the PowerPoint that I created to define the elements and principles. I also added a few images to get an idea of what this project was about. We had to find one picture for each element and principles and describe them.

I think it is important to teach the elements and principles of design because they are the basis of what all art is. When students understand the basics they can use that to make more complex designs. It is also great knowledge to have later on in life. For example color is everywhere in our world. When there is an understanding of the basic colors and the ones with the highest and lowest contrast it can be used for everything. It can be used for something as simple as getting dressed in the morning. Having an understanding of the basics of art will help everyone for the rest of their lives.

For an extension activity for Kindergarteners learning about texture I would have them get the texture of different leaves and make a fall scenic picture. I will take the students out for a field trip and they can pick a variety of leaves off the ground. They will bring them in and arrange them under a piece of paper. Then they will pick out some fall colors and color over the paper.
