Van Gogh
For this project, we learned about the artist Van Gogh and his famous Starry Night painting. After learning about him and writing three facts we learned about him, we created our own starry night project. For this, we took a dark piece of construction paper, tissue paper, and clear acrylic. We tore the pieces of tissue paper and put a layer of acrylic down on the paper, laid the tissue paper down, and then brushed acrylic over top. After the background was done we took black construction paper and created a shadow of a landscape. After that, we used oil pastels to add more character and texture to the project.
For an extension activity, students could find a famous artist's work and write a short story about it. Then, they could be given some materials, and they could recreate that artist's painting with the materials that they were given. Then they could compare theirs to the artists and see the similarities and differences.
