Clay Frogs

For this project, we created frogs out of clay and a lily pad to go with it. We started by rolling out our clay using leveling boards to create an even surface. Then, we used a cardboard template to cut out our lily pads. Then, we started by making the frogs. We rolled our clay into a ball and cut it into 2/3s. We used the bigger piece to make the body. Then, we rolled our clay into a snake and cut two long pieces for the legs, two pieces for the eyes, and four for the feet. Then, we scored the body and the pieces to attach everything to the body. We also used water to glue everything down. Then we create the little details on the face and on the feet. After that, we painted the frog and the lily pad. For an extension activity, students could create their own animals of their choosing. They could look up an inspiration picture and use the same concepts of the frog to use their creative freedom and pick an animal of their choosing.
